The purpose of Special Schools is to provide a positive option within a range of educational settings that can be offered to students with intellectual disabilities, these students may also have physical or sensory impairments. Students can enrol at any time during the year following the recommendation of a Guidance Officer., A Special School will offer students an adapted, modified curriculum delivered both individually and in small groups. Teachers work closely with School Service Officers (SSO's) to offer learning programs within the mandated DECS curriculum., Each child has a negotiated education plan (NEP) that outlines the child's strengths and plan for the delivery of the curriculum, the relevant health care needs and behaviour management goals., Social skills and developing independence is an important part of the curriculum that allows our students to function positively within the community., Within a Special School community, teachers and parents work closely together to achieve positive outcomes for all students.
