- Offers an opportunity for Community involvement, the development of skills, the development of character and leadership qualities
- Responds to day to day type incidents such as, vehicle accidents, searches, cliff rescue, flood & storm damages situations and any other incidents at which their assistance may be required
- Provides a nucleus of personnel, trained in skills to be able to support other statutory services in times of emergencies or disasters
