- Promotion of the study of natural history through public lectures, field excursions, club activities and publication of half yearly journal, The South Australian Naturalist
- Field trips - held occasionally, visitors welcome
- Management of nature reserves located at McLaren Flat, Forest Range, Carpenter Rocks and Nangkita
- Promotion of environmental conservation by encouraging the preservation of important landscape features and habitat for the protection of indigenous flora and fauna
