Eligibility
Residents of South Australia who have had a Health Care Card for at least 12 months or who have a Pensioner Concession Card, and their dependents, can apply directly to any participating optometrist
Fees
SASS reimburses optometrists with a % of the cost of standard lenses and frames. Clients pay the difference in cost if they choose more expensive options

Government assistance may be obtained for either a pair of reading spectacles and a pair of distance spectacles or a pair of bifocal spectacles every 2 years, unless otherwise prescribed. Assistance in the supply of contact lenses may be provided through Eye Clinics of the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Women's & Children's Hospital. For people living outside the metropolitan area, assistance for contact lenses may be provided for prescriptions written by any qualified prescriber
