ARA provides long term and emergency services to help refugees become independent citizens of Australia. ARA also provides cultural training, research, speakers and volunteer opportunities for the broader community
Services
- ARA Migration - ARA Migration Services can help with migration issues, general advice and referral service, assisting Temporary Protection Visa [TPV] holders and other asylum seekers with an application for Permanent Protection [PV], assisting TPV/ PV holders with other visa applications, assisting refugees with ministerial submissions, assisting clients who are proposing family and friends under the offshore refugee program, assisting refugees with citizenship applications, and free community information sessions to communities
- ARA Housing - ARA provides workshops, advise, assistance and referrals with finding, accessing and maintaining tenancies, referrals to other services as appropriate, and assistance to connect the utilities. Long term clients can also be assisted with support letters to Housing SA, Real Estate Agents and application letters to Community Housing. - ARA Casework – ARA provides casework services to refugee families and individuals, raging form basic information and informal referrals to practical and ongoing support available through case management
- ARA Help Desk - Basic casework services are available through the Help Desk which continues to operate Monday to Friday from 9:30am-4:30pm. This is a walk-in service that offers information on various settlement services available in Adelaide, referrals to these services as well as some practical assistance. Through Help Desk we have access to TIS accredited interpreters which enable us to communicate with the clients in their own languages, provide information on often complex systems and procedures in a simple and comprehensible way. Our clients are eligible for one off financial assistance during their first two years of arrival to Australia
- ARA Education –ARA offers student placements and research projects, in partnership with universities, TAFE and various colleges, policy and program design and support to services working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. ARA takes part in various events and offers Justice of the Peace services
- ARA Community Services - Cultural Awareness Training to service providers including government, corporate, schools and churches. Involves interactive and innovative presentation techniques. Community Educators are hired from Ethnic communities. The Australian Refugee Association also provides training to its staff and volunteers
- Coordination for Circles of Friends, groups of community members who support people in detention, asylum seekers and refugees
- Employment services - ARA currently runs employment programs that provide support for people wishing to secure employment in South Australia. Programs focus on building the capacity of the participant to take advantage of presenting job opportunities
- Volunteer programs - There are a number of volunteer opportunities at ARA such as: ARA Donation Centre (assistance with delivering furniture to refugee clients), Family Support (regularly visiting families). The Homework Clubs also require volunteers to mentor and tutor primary and high school students from refugee backgrounds
