Dog owners are required to ensure that dogs are not wandering at large. Penalties apply for offences under the Dog and Cat Management Act. Dog attacks on a person or dog should be reported to the Council as soon as possible. Dog owners must ensure that their dog is not causing a nuisance by barking or defecating in public or private property. Dog owners are responsible for registering a change of address or ownership whether it is within this or another Council area. Registering your dog improves the chances of it being traced back to you if it becomes lost.

- Registration of dogs - legislation requires registration of dogs over the age of 3 months. It must wear a collar with registration disc.
