This service operates five days a week for new parents who have birthed or have booked to birth at the Mount Barker Hospital. A Midwife can visit parents in their own home, enabling mothers to return home from hospital early with support after the birth of their babies. The service is available mainly for the first 3 - 4 weeks after birth
Services
- Postnatal checks on mother and reassurance about normal baby appearance
- Support and assistance in the establishment of a successful breastfeeding relationship
- Provides information about formula preparation & sterilization techniques where appropriate
- Weighing of the baby
- Neonatal screening test between day two & four
- Support changing emotional needs of the family
- Linking or referral to other support or professionals as required, eg: Child & Youth Health, Community Health Centre and Australian Breastfeeding Association
