Private Health Insurance Ombudsman
The Private Health Insurance Ombudsman has been established to provide private health insurance members with an independent service for health insurance problems and enquiries. Hospitals, medical practitioners (including some dentists) and health funds can also approach the Ombudsman about problems with any health fund, private hospital or medical practitioner, although all complaints must be about a health insurance arrangement., The Ombudsman cannot deal with complaints about Medicare. These are the responsibility of the Commonwealth Ombudsman. Complaints about service or treatment by any hospital, both public and private, are handled by the relevant State or Territory health body., The Private Health Insurance Ombudsman is an Australian statutory body and is independent of all private health funds, private hospitals and the government.
