Eligibility
Older people, younger people with disabilities and their carers living on the City of Marion, based on needs assessment. However residents residing with others in fulltime emplyment may be declined services

Information about Community Care Services is also available from the Council's web site in English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Filipino, German, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Malaysian, Polish, Tamil and Vietnamese. Residents who are willing to pay full fee for services may use the Trades and Services Register (Council does not employ tradespeople listed in the Register and does not give warranty for work performed).

Services
  • Assessment - for community care, including by home visit if required
  • Home help - cleaning and other domestic services (short, medium and long-term) may be available. Specific eligibility criteria apply for medium and long term support. Short: 6 visits, max. 12 hours per financial year; Medium: 52 hours over 6-12 months; Long: 52 hours over a year (reviewed annually). Hourly rate applies
  • Shopping and banking - resident must accompany volunteer and subject to availability of volunteers. Small fee per trip
  • Gardening - general gardening only, no tree-lopping. Maximum 5 hours per financial year per household. Hourly fee plus cost of any materials
  • Rubbish removal - counted as one hour per trailerload towards 5 hour annual garden allowance. Maximum of one load per financial year unless exceptional circumstances. Trailerload and hourly fee applies
  • Home maintenance - essential minor works only. Hourly fee plus cost of any materials. Trades and Services register available
  • Home modification - minor work only. Hourly fee plus cost of any materials. Trades and Services register available
  • Safety/security assessments - also replacement of smoke alarm batteries. Energy and environment audits also available. No charge
  • Personal alarms - if client assessed in advance by Council staff as requiring one, client to pay the full cost of installation with Council providing reimbursement up to $150
  • Information and referral
  • Recreation for adults - Cooinda Recreation Centre
  • Transport - for aged residents who have difficulty accessing public transport, do not have a car and who live independently, a community bus provides door-to-door service for shopping, visiting selected seniors groups and library. Small fee applies. Personal transport provided by volunteers for aged residents who do not have a car and are living independently, for one-off medical appointments. Resident must be able to walk unaided. No charge but resident must pay for any parking fees
