Supported Residential Facilities (SRF) are primarily privately operated companies, providing supported accommodation and some care services for people with a mental illness, disability and ,where appropriate, aged in a group setting. SRF are regulated by the Supported Residential Facilities Act 1992 and Regulations 2009.
There are several different state government departments involved in different aspects of SRF:
Legislation and Policy - The responsible Minister is the Minister for Families and Communities through the Department for Families and Communities (DFC). Contact Community Partnership & Growth, tel. 1300 700 561, PO Box 292, Adelaide SA 5001
Funding - Whilst SRF do not receive direct government funding, individual residents may be eligible for a small subsidy which is paid to the facility. Contact the Office for Disability and Client Services (ODACS), tel. 8226 6052
Resident support services and access to a SRF - Any agency wishing to refer a client into a SRF must first contact the SRF Intake and Support Team who will assess the person's suitability for a SRF. Once this assessment is completed and the client is placed in a facility, they will be eligible for the government subsidy payment. New residents assessed as having high, complex unmet needs may receive support under the Department for Families and Communities Sustainment Funding Program. The contact for SRF Assessment and Intake Team is 8448 4609
Licensing and inspection - SRF are required to be licensed and meet the requirements of the Supported Residential Facilities Act, 1992. Local Councils are responsible for granting licenses and subsequent inspection of premises
