- Ashford Special School provides a safe, caring educational environment that promotes independence within the lifelong learning premise, supporting learning for students with disability. Many students begin their schooling at Ashford and remain through to their senior years whilst others access alternative pathways. There is a strong focus from Middle School onwards on exploring pathways into supported employment or appropriate day options programs. There are a range of opportunities available at Ashford that promote growth and development whilst developing strong support networks. Through a diverse range of educational programs and experiences students are encouraged and supported to be valued participants in the community. We recognise that we have some of the most complex students enrolled and we support all students to optimise learning opportunities. Students with complex needs are supported through a case management approach that may involve regular planning meetings to review progress with the parents and other relevant agencies. Effective communication and working in close partnership between home and school means consistency in goal setting, planning and implementation of strategies across both environments to further support and enhance learning.
